Driving Agroecological Transformation: The CORE Project Launches in Nigeria

AyosifamHub is excited to announce its involvement in a ground-breaking initiative aimed at transforming Nigeria’s rice value chain. Next week, we will be at the official launch of the Carbon Offsetting Rice Emissions (CORE) project in Abuja. This event marks a significant step towards sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture in Nigeria.

The CORE project, an initiative by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with Olam Agri Nigeria Ltd. Its primary goal is to empower smallholder farmers by creating a system that allows them to track and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their rice fields.

Why This Matters for Farmers

Agriculture is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, and rice cultivation, in particular, contributes significantly to this. The CORE project addresses this by promoting the use of climate-smart technologies and sustainable practices. This includes methods that not only reduce emissions but also improve soil health, increase yields, and make farming more resilient to climate change.

By aligning these practices with international carbon credit standards, the project creates a powerful new income stream for farmers. They can earn financial incentives for adopting these environmentally friendly methods, turning their sustainable practices into a valuable asset. This shift provides a strong push for agroecological transformation and helps diversify the business models of smallholder farmers.

Our Role at AyosifamHub

Following the official launch, AyosifamHub will be on the ground, working directly with smallholder rice farmers to extend the reach of the CORE project. We will focus on bringing these innovative technologies and practices to the people who need them most, ensuring that the benefits of this project are widely accessible.

For us at AyosifamHub, this project is particularly meaningful. One of our flagship products, CASMA, contains rice flour, connecting us directly to the rice value chain. This partnership allows us to support the very farmers who provide the key ingredients for our products while also contributing to a more sustainable food system.

The launch event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, 2025, in Abuja.
