At Ayosifam, our mission has always been rooted in providing food products that not only taste good but also nourish our community. We believe that the foundation of a healthy society is healthy food.
This year, we are taking a significant step forward in our commitment to nutrition. We are thrilled to announce a major initiative to integrate Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato (OFSP) into our food-based products. To achieve this, we need strong local partners. We are calling on the hardworking smallholder farmers of Kwara State to join us in this mission. If you are ready to farm for the future of food, Ayosifam is ready to work with you.
Why Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato? The “Superfood” Tuber
You might be wondering, why the sudden focus on this specific type of potato? The Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato is not your average tuber; it is a nutritional powerhouse. In many parts of Nigeria, Vitamin A deficiency remains a concern, impacting immune systems and vision, particularly in children and nursing mothers.
The deep orange colour of OFSP is nature’s indicator that it is rich in beta-carotene, which the body converts into essential Vitamin A. By incorporating OFSP into our diet, we are effectively fighting hidden hunger and malnutrition.
For our farmers, it is important to know that OFSP has immense commercial value because of its versatility. At Ayosifam, we aren’t just looking to sell raw tubers; we are utilizing OFSP as a key ingredient across a range of value-added products.
Here is how we plan to utilize the harvest:
-
Natural Sweetener: OFSP has a naturally sweet taste without the need for excessive refined sugars. We can use it to naturally sweeten baked goods, beverages, and snacks, making them healthier for families.
-
Nutritious Baby Food: Because of its soft texture when cooked, high digestibility, and immense Vitamin A content, OFSP is perhaps the perfect base ingredient for weaning foods and baby formulas. It ensures our littlest ones get the best start in life.
-
Fortified Flours and Bakery: OFSP can be processed into high-quality flour used in bread, cakes, and pastries, adding a nutritional boost to everyday staples.
An Invitation to Kwara State Smallholder Farmers
We believe the best food is grown locally. We want to shorten our supply chain and ensure that the economic benefits of this initiative go directly to our host communities.
We are specifically looking to partner with smallholder farmers right here in Kwara State for the upcoming planting season.
By partnering with Ayosifam, you gain a reliable market for your produce. We are looking for farmers willing to adopt best practices to grow high-quality, nutritious OFSP that meets industry standards.
Are you ready to grow with us?
This is more than just a farming contract; it is a partnership for better nutrition in Nigeria. If you are a smallholder farmer in Kwara State and are interested in becoming an Ayosifam supplier, we want to hear from you.
Let us work together to bring the golden benefits of the Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato from your farms to tables across the country.
