The Orange Revolution Arrives in Kwara: Ayosifam Brings Bio-fortified Sweet Potato Vines to Your Doorstep

Ayosifam revolutionize Orange flesh sweet potato in kwara state

At Ayosifam Integrated Service Limited, our mandate has always been clear: Feeding the future, empowering farmers, and enriching lives.

We are thrilled to announce a major milestone in our journey toward a more food-secure and healthy Kwara State. After an extensive search and significant logistical investment, we have successfully transported high-quality Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato (OFSP) vines from Oyo State to our operational base in Kwara.

This was no small feat. Bringing these delicate vines across state lines involved high costs and days of careful handling, but we believe the long-term health and social benefits for Kwarans are worth every effort.

Why OFSP? A Superfood for the Modern Kwaran

The Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato is not just another crop; it is a bio-fortified powerhouse designed to combat nutritional deficiencies. Unlike the common white or yellow varieties, the deep orange color of this potato is a sign of its extraordinary Beta-carotene content.

1. The Vitamin A Powerhouse

The body converts Beta-carotene into Vitamin A, which is essential for:

  • Child Development: Protecting children from Vitamin A Deficiency (VAD), which can lead to blindness and weakened immune systems.

  • Adult Health: Supporting healthy vision, skin integrity, and a robust immune response against infections.

2. The Medicinal Power of the Leaves

At Ayosifam, we advocate for “zero-waste” farming. The roots are delicious, but the leaves are a hidden medicinal goldmine. OFSP leaves are rich in:

  • Antioxidants: Helping to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the body.

  • Lutein: Essential for eye health and protecting against age-related macular degeneration.

  • Vitamins & Minerals: They can be prepared like spinach (Efo), providing a boost of Vitamin K, Vitamin B6, and Riboflavin.

3. An Essential Diet Component

OFSP is a Low-Glycemic Index (GI) carbohydrate. It provides sustained energy without the sharp blood sugar spikes associated with refined starches. This makes it an ideal staple for managing weight and supporting metabolic health across all age groups.

Preserving the Future: Our Demonstration Farm

We understand that to feed the future, we must first protect the source. To ensure these premium vines adapt perfectly to the Kwara climate and remain available for years to come, Ayosifam is establishing a dedicated OFSP Demonstration Farm.

This farm will serve two critical purposes:

  1. Preservation: Carefully maintaining the genetic integrity and health of the vines.

  2. Education: Serving as a training ground where local smallholders can see the best practices for cultivating this profitable crop firsthand.

How You Can Get Involved

We are currently in the multiplication phase to ensure we have enough healthy stems to meet the needs of our farming clusters.

  • Requesting Stems: Starting from the next quarter, smallholder farmers in Kwara State can officially begin requesting OFSP vines for their own farms.

  • Targeting the Window: By securing your vines next quarter, you will be perfectly positioned to harvest during the highly profitable window we have previously identified.

Conclusion

Ayosifam is committed to more than just processing; we are committed to the health of our soil and the health of our people. By bringing the Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato to Kwara, we are giving our farmers a high-value crop and our families a path to better nutrition.
