Looking Back: Highlights from Our January 2026 Workshop

Before stepping forward into 2027, let’s reflect on the solid foundation established during our January 2026 Workshop held under the theme: “Sustainable Post-Harvest Management & Outgrower Synergy.”

During the 2026 session, over 40 outgrowers and agricultural extension workers gathered for intensive practical sessions. Key outcomes included:

  • Raw Tuber Quality Control: Practical demonstrations on minimizing raw tuber mechanical damage during harvest and transportation prior to processing.

  • Hygienic Handling & Standards: Introduction to food-grade safety standards aligned with NAFDAC compliance to guarantee sand-free, low-cyanide garri production.

  • Cooperative Off-Take Networks: Strengthening rural cooperative structures to guarantee fair, transparent pricing and structured off-take supply chains for Ayosifam Garri and Garri Lebu.

Building directly on those accomplishments, our January 2027 workshop elevates these core skills into the digital and climate-resilient era!

Why This Year’s Theme Matters

Cassava remains one of Nigeria’s most vital staple crops, yet smallholder farmers face two pressing challenges: unpredictable climate patterns affecting yield, and high post-harvest losses caused by traditional processing bottlenecks. Furthermore, many rural farmers remain excluded from modern digital trade channels and financial tools.

Our January 2027 workshop bridges these gaps by merging climate resilience, value-chain diversification, and digital empowerment.

Key Workshop Objectives

1. Master Climate-Smart Processing & Quality Standards

  • Master Processing Techniques: Learn precise fermentation control and expert roasting methods to consistently deliver low-cyanide, extra-crunchy, sand-free Ayosifam Garri and ultra-smooth Ayosifam Garri Lebu.

  • Zero-Contamination Processing: Adopt clean, hygienic standards that eliminate grit and environmental pollutants while maximizing product yield.

2. Diversify Processing into Premium Staples & Biofortified Crops

  • Product Line Expansion: Gain practical insights into processing and supplying roots and grains for Ayosifam’s expanding food portfolio, including Odorless Fufu, composite flours (Sorghum, Millet, and Rice Flours), Potato Flour, and CASMA.

  • Introduction of Vitamin A OFSP Vines: Special focus on introducing Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato (OFSP) vines to outgrowers. Farmers will learn the strategic importance of cultivating Vitamin A-rich potatoes to combat micronutrient deficiencies, improve family nutrition, access high-yielding crops, and secure steady income through Ayosifam’s off-taker supply chain.

3. Drive Digital Inclusion for Smallholders

  • AyosifamHub Platform Training: Hands-on guidance on navigating the AyosifamHub digital platform for seamless farm management.

  • Digital Records & Market Access: Step-by-step training on digital record-keeping, accessing mobile financial services, and receiving real-time market updates.

  • Structured Off-Take Networks: Direct connection of smallholder clusters to reliable outgrower schemes and guaranteed buyers.

4. Promote Gender & Youth Agribusiness Leadership

  • Tailored mentorship and practical tools for women agricultural cooperatives and young agripreneurs to foster resilient, profitable agribusiness ownership.
