Kiyoko Foods Ltd Boosts Cocoa Farming in Ondo State with Training Initiative

Kiyoko Foods Ltd, a company dedicated to producing clean and affordable chocolate and peanut products while fostering sustainable practices, recently concluded a vital training program for cocoa farmers on July 8th, 2025, in the Ile Oluji via Erin-tun-tun Okeigbo Community of Ondo State. This initiative, proudly funded by MasterCard, and spearheaded by founder Victoria Ogwanighie, aimed to equip local farmers with enhanced farming and processing methods.

The comprehensive training was designed to empower cocoa farmers to significantly improve their yields and the quality of their produce, ultimately leading to increased income. A key focus was also on enabling farmers to meet the stringent new regulations for exporting cocoa to international markets, particularly those in the European Union. This aligns perfectly with Kiyoko Foods’ mission to reduce waste and enhance farmer livelihoods through direct engagement.

A total of 50 dedicated cocoa farmers participated in the program, with the majority being female cocoa farmers. They received hands-on instruction and valuable resources. The curriculum covered crucial aspects of environmentally friendly farming techniques, emphasizing sustainable practices that protect the land. Furthermore, farmers were thoroughly trained on proper cocoa fermentation and drying methods, which are critical for achieving high-quality beans.

In addition to the knowledge transfer, Kiyoko Foods Ltd provided tangible support by distributing free farm inputs, including organic pesticides, to all trained farmers. This practical assistance is expected to yield immediate and long-term benefits. The anticipated impact includes a marked improvement in cocoa quality, a significant reduction in post-harvest waste, and a substantial increase in farmer earnings. Crucially, the training and support will also facilitate the farmers’ ability to comply with evolving international market standards, opening up new opportunities for their produce.

This initiative by Kiyoko Foods Ltd, made possible through the support of MasterCard, underscores its commitment to sustainable agriculture and community development, directly contributing to the economic upliftment of cocoa farming communities in Nigeria.
